A new trend of education in Vietnam: Applying technology in teaching and learning

In many educational institutions, the use of information technology in teaching and learning is encouraged. As a result, a wave of digital transformation in education is anticipated.

The term “EdTech” (short for Education Technology), which refers to the use of technology in education, has become a well-known term worldwide, including in Vietnam. With access to the Internet and online educational platforms, applying technology in teaching and learning has become simpler. As a result, it is now becoming a mainstream teaching method in modern education.

Online teaching assists schools in improving the quality of teaching and enables students to complete the general education program easier. Furthermore, online teaching platforms expand educational access opportunities and allow students to study anywhere, anytime. Understanding this global digital transformation in education, Vietnam has promulgated Circular No. 09/2021/TT-BGDĐT on managing and organizing online teaching in general education institutions and continuing education institutions.

On February 6, Deputy Minister Nguyen Huu Do and the online education platform Khan Academy discussed the collaborative initiative of the Khan Academy Tieng Viet Program. The Director General of Primary Education mentioned Circular No. 21/2014/TT-BGDDT on the management and use of referenced publications and Circular No. 09/2021/TT-BGDDT on the management and organization of online teaching. Learning resources provided by Khan Academy are not only for high school students but also intergenerational (used as learning resources for families to teach their children, grandparents, or parents themselves).

Khan Academy aims to support Decision No. 1373/Q-TTg on building a learning society in the period of 2021-2030; Decision No. 131/QĐ-TTg on strengthening the application of information technology and digital transformation in education and training for the period of 2022-2025 with a vision towards 2030, and Circular No. 09/2021/TT-BGDDT on the management and organization of online teaching. In the meeting, Khan Academy’s representative reported to the Deputy Minister on the research and application of the Open School model using the Khan Academy platform. The model helps educational institutions to implement digital transformation in teaching and learning management.

Digital transformation in education is the application of advanced technologies to enhance the learner’s experience, improve teaching methods, and create a suitable learning environment. Using information technology will be the future movement in the education industry. However, the way to implement  Edtech widely and effectively is still a long-term strategic issue associated with substantial and radical reforms in teaching, learning, and training management.
